Dining Room Wall Art

Dining Room Wall Art

The wall behind a dining table tends to be one of the longest in the house, and most of the time you'll be looking at it while seated. That changes what works. A wide horizontal canvas or a matched set of 2 or 3 fills the space without breaking it up. Lower-contrast pieces tend to read better at close range than something bold and graphic.

The art should also work in the lighting the dining room actually uses, which is often a single pendant or chandelier rather than the layered lighting of a living room. Soft subjects tend to handle warmer overhead light better than high-contrast abstract pieces.

Subjects That Suit a Dining Room

Landscape wall art holds a dining room wall particularly well. The Tuscan Village Set of 2 and Country Villa Canvas Art both bring a Mediterranean warmth that suits a dining space. The Gathering Storm Canvas Art and Highland Solitude Canvas Art carry the tonal depth of traditional oil painting and are suited to a more formal dining room with richer furnishings.

For something lighter, the Fluttering Dreams Abstract Canvas Art which features scattered butterflies on a pale ground that bring warmth without weight works as a softer focal point.

Dining Room Wall Art Sets

Some dining room walls are too wide for a single canvas. A matched set of 2 or 3 fills the space without overcrowding it. Sets of 2 share the same palette and dimensions across both canvases. Sets of 3 stretch across walls that a pair would leave looking short, and tend to suit longer dining rooms where the table itself is six seats or more.

FAQ

How high should I hang wall art in a dining room?

Hang the canvas so its centre sits at eye level when seated. This is slightly lower than living room placement because the art is viewed most often from the dining chairs rather than standing.

What style of art suits a dining room?

Warm landscapes and soft botanicals work best for dining rooms. Highly graphic or high-contrast pieces can feel harsh under dining room lighting.

Should I choose one canvas or a set for the dining room?

For walls under seven feet wide, a single canvas works well. For longer dining walls, a set of 2 or 3 fills the space more naturally.
